eTeach supports Seren partnership launch for Yale Young Global Scholars

On Thursday 7 June 2018, Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams AM will launch the Seren -Yale Young Global Scholars partnership. is proud to sponsor this development in the Seren project which supports pupils in Wales to achieve their academic potential and aspire to studying at leading universities across the world.

Rod Bowen, eTeach Director for Wales and the Marches said

“Eteach recruits teachers and senior school leaders across the globe and we work with over 90% of all schools in Wales.  It is a pleasure to support a prestigious project that helps students in Wales to aim high and supports teachers to help these students to have global aspirations.  It is a natural fit.”

Chepstow School is one of the schools in the Seren project.

Mel Thomas, Assistant Head Teacher said,

“Our involvement with the Seren Network has been instrumental in inspiring our students to have high aspirations, setting their sights on getting to world class universities.  Having the chance to meet with representatives of these top Universities and getting first-hand experiences of these universities is helping pupils to understand what’s expected.”

Catrin Williams and Joe Summers are Year 13 pupils at Chepstow School.

Catrin said that busting some of the myths about the application process for Oxford University has helped her.

“The Seren Project really helped me with the Oxford interview process.

The interview workshop, with Matthew Williams from Jesus College Oxford, was particularly helpful, allowing us to familiarise ourselves with the types of questions that are asked at interview and discuss them with our peers. This ultimately led to me being offered one of only two places to read Human Sciences at Magdalen College Oxford.”

Joe said that attending workshops helped him to think differently about the subjects he is interested in and this has made him stretch and challenge himself to aim higher.
